Whether you need to know who to call in case of an emergency, or want to explore options in terms of routine, competitive or breeding healthcare support, the following services are a great place to start.

Knotts Yard Veterinary Practice

Marcus Wilson set up Knotts Yard Veterinary Practice in December 2010 after working as a vet in the local area for more than 30 years. He now heads up a highly-skilled, dedicated and loyal team, many of whom had already worked together at other vet surgeries in the area.

Since we opened our doors the practice has grown considerably and we continue to pride ourselves on providing a friendly and personal service to both you and your animals.

Rase Vets

We provide a full range of equine veterinary services for our clients – both on site and at yards across the county. We benefit from having a dedicated equine operating theatre, onsite laboratory, stabling and free Equizone system.
Most of the veterinarians have been, or still are, horse owners and many have been riders locally or nationally.
The practice is easily found on the Gallamore Industrial Estate. The equine unit has its own entrance adjoining the small animal practice and parking for horseboxes and trailers.

Tower Equine

We are a British Equine Veterinary Association approved centre for Artificial Insemination with chilled and frozen semen.

Roger Lee is one of only a few veterinary surgeons to hold the RCVS’ Certificate in Equine Stud Medicine and has many years experience in equine fertility having practiced as a dedicated stud vet both in the UK and Australia. Holly Grantham has also been with the practice since 2012 and has a particular interest in AI.

Mares for AI board at Brackenspa Stud in a purpose-built Articial Insemination centre. Over thirty acres of grass turnout is available. In addition there is limited availability at Tower Farm itself for embryo transfer mares and those that need specialised veterinary care.

We offer optional, fixed-price veterinary packages for both chilled and frozen semen. These help you to understand what your veterinary costs are likely to be. Not all mares will get in foal at the first attempt, and by having an ‘in foal fee’ we can further reduce the per cycle price. Clients are however free to opt simply to pay for each veterinary procedure individually, and pro rata prices are available on request.

In addition, Tower Equine conducts mare fertility investigations and, in conjunction with Brackenspa Stud, offers stallion AI dummy mare training and a foaling service with alarms, cameras and a highly experienced around the clock team.

House & Jackson

House & Jackson have been caring for horses and pets in Essex since 1980.

In 2016 we were awarded the prestigious Hospital status for horses and companion animals by the RCVS. This is the only equine hospital in Essex, and one of only four pet and horse hospitals in the UK

We are a partnership, providing you and your pets and horses with the service you deserve. All partners are qualified vets and work in clinical practice. We aim to provide the highest standards of care for our patients. Helping the partners care for your animals, are 8 other veterinary surgeons and around 30 other staff members.

We are small enough to provide personal service for your animals and get to know your needs, while we are large enough to cope with the wide range of medical and surgical problems that are brought under our care.

Paton & Lee

We’ve been based at Hoo Hall in Rivenhall for over 30 years.
During that time our team has grown and developed beyond all recognition, but we have never lost our traditional values. Today, with 7 full-time equine-only vets and 11 other members of staff – almost all of whom come from equestrian backgrounds and understand horses inside-out – life at Hoo Hall is as busy as ever.

We always have two vets on duty for emergencies at any time and the office remains open on Saturdays, providing you with the excellent service you expect from your equine veterinary practice. All of our vets are passionate about their careers and have expert equine knowledge, with many years of experience between them and advanced veterinary qualifications too.

We also have a lot more equipment nowadays, to help us diagnose many conditions your horse might have: from state-of-the-art portable digital X-ray systems, to high-tech ultrasound machines and digital video endoscopy and gastroscopy, portable dental endoscopy and shockwave therapy, full anaesthetic monitoring equipment … the list goes on.

Importantly though, despite the huge and rapid expansion of Paton and Lee, we always manage to maintain a friendly, caring and compassionate service. The expansion will undoubtedly continue, but Paton and Lee will always strive to maintain its traditional ‘family feel’, so that when you have to turn to us for help it feels like you’re turning to a wise and trusted friend.

Blaircourt Equine Vets

As a long established provider of equine veterinary care in the south east, our equine vets cover all areas of Essex, into London & the Southern parts of Suffolk. We offer a prompt & reliable ambulatory service as well as excellent purpose built in-patient facilities in WoodhamFerrers, slightly South East of Chelmsford

Our philosophy towards veterinary care is simple – to use the highest level of diagnostics and treatment appropriate to any given case, whilst at the same time, always maintaining a good mix of care, compassion and common sense in dealing with your four-legged friend. This applies to ALL our patients, foals to competition horses, pleasure hacks to geriatrics.

Blaircourt Equine Veterinary Clinic has been in existence for over 30 years. Since taking over the reins in April 2003, partners Mark Meter, Patrick Traill and Ralph Hege have seen a huge growth in clientele. With a strong emphasis on using up-to-date diagnostic methods and following these up with top-class treatment options, the practice has gone from strength to strength. We pride ourselves on breaking down the old-school perception that the vet is somehow the most important person in the equation, and recognise the importance of having an honest and trusting client-vet relationship about the real issue at hand, the equine patient. The vets at Blaircourt are always available for informal chats on the telephone to reassure owners over individual cases

4 Legs Physio

I specialise in the treatment and care of horses in Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Newmarket.

I qualified as a physiotherapist in 1996 and then gained a Masters qualification in Veterinary Physiotherapy in 2003 from the Royal Veterinary College, Hertfordshire.

I now have a thriving practice treating animals using physiotherapy techniques whilst maintaining close liaison with the owner and veterinary surgeon.

As well as offering mobilisation and massage therapy, I am also able to offer a variety of electrotherapy modalities including TENS, muscle stimulation and ultrasound.

Rehabilitation of the whole animal is vital after any injury, as well as showing the owner techniques that they can use on their animals.

Physical therapy or physiotherapy provides treatment for horses to maintain and restore optimal movement and function.

Maxine Keefe Reiki Master

From elite competition horses to companion ponies, Reiki has something to offer all equines. It can help them in many ways; by preparing them for or recovering from competition, calming when changing yards to delving deep into physical and emotional problems, helping them to release and move on. Horses respond exceptionally well to Reiki.

Equine Reiki is non invasive, uses no pressure or manipulation and requires no usage of drugs. It is a holistic therapy treating the cause of the problem and not just the presenting condition.

It is suitable for all equines and works safely alongside Veterinary medicine.
